Tuesday, December 20, 2016

On December 20, 2016 Communication Works of America Local 13000 donated coats as they do every year to the Veterans at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC). Among the adults and staff volunteering is 9 year old Francis Berry who makes the visit even more special for our Veterans and encouraging to our staff. Francis has been traveling to the VA with his father, Brian Berry a Marine Corps Veteran and Chairperson for the CWA Union Veterans Committee, every year for the last 5 years. Francis voluntarily misses school where he loves math to come to the VA to deliver coats to the patients. Francis said “I’ve been doing this with my dad for five years and I like making them happy” and indeed he does. After Francis handed a Veteran a coat that Veteran danced and sang “Feel good like James Brown”! Francis is a remarkable kid who likes school, playing basketball, baseball, soccer and hanging out with his family but this one day a year he becomes a shining light to Veterans in need.
