VA2K to Benefit Homeless Veterans
The National Center on Homelessness Among Veterans staff are eager to participate in this year's VA2K event.
On May 15, 2013, the Philadelphia VA Medical Center will host the 3rd Annual VA2K, a Run, Walk, Roll Event held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event, which consists of a course of just over a mile through University City, is designed to benefit homeless Veterans directly in the Philadelphia area. The event is open to the public and all participants are asked to donate items that the homeless desperately need as a registration “fee.”
Event organizers are primarily seeking the following items: WaWa, Walmart or Target gift cards; SEPTA tokens or smart cards; men’s belts; women’s everyday clothing such as socks, underwear, bras, shorts, shirts, lights jackets; and men’s clothing such as socks, undergarments and t-shirts. If you plan on participating, bring your donations to the registration table the day of the event.
Registration will take place in the Community Living Center parking lot, accessible from University Avenue. Participants should park in the medical center parking garage.
Everyone who participates in the VA2K and donates an item to homeless Veterans will receive a special “wellness” themed gift, such as pedometer or gym bag.
The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is supporting the event by providing water to participants. The VCS will have special VA2K t-shirts on sale for $9.99 in the retail store located in the medical center. The retail store also has many of the items sought for donation for sale as well as VCS coupons.
