PVAMC Prepares for Hurricane Sandy

philadelphia VA staff prepare for hurricane sandy

The staff of the Philadelphia VA Medical Center work hard to stock up on supplies. They have committed themselves to making sure the medical center and our Veterans stay safe during the storm.

Despite the approaching storm and warnings from city and state authorities, Philadelphia VA Medical Center (PVAMC) employees made their way to work to provide uninterrupted care to our Veterans.

Although Veterans were notified on Friday that in the interest of safety, outpatient appointments were cancelled for Monday and Tuesday, staff was advised on Sunday to report for work Monday morning to maintain facility operations and ensure the safety for patients. Inpatient and emergency care continue as usual, with staff stepping up to fill in for colleagues who could not make it to the medical center.

Food and Nutrition Service is continuing to prepare meals for inpatients, Community Living Center residents, and facility personnel who are planning to spend the night. VA Police is on site providing security throughout the storm and staff from a number of services, including Facilities Management, Human Resources, and Health Administration Service, is working to keep operations flowing.

Clinical and administrative staff members are working hard to ensure that care for Veterans in the medical center is not disrupted by Hurricane Sandy.
